Well done IT Committee

Congratulations to Amy and Kathryn and the 10 year 12 IT representatives for a successful IT week.

As I type this, there are 3 weeks to the Formal and 7 weeks left of term 3.  Make each week count.  Tick off acheivable goals each week.  Lots of mini goals, successfully achieved makes it easier to achieve that big goal!

Your completed Blue Form is due Monday week.  Lost your form?  Get a copy from this blog (back a few posts).

UMAT:  without evidence of attendance (ticket/voucher etc) non attendance on Wednesday will impact on your 90% in a negative way.

GODSTOWE.  I am corresponding with Godstowe and aim to get back to the Godstowe applicants next week.  Thank you for your professional applications.

Ms Pride, Director of Middle School, was impressed with the contribution that many year 12s made to an important year 10 assembly this week re VCE course selection.

Footy at Bonbeach

As many of you did your Eng. Lang. SAC on Thursday, the footy team battled the wind at Bonbeach and had a good win led by a strong group of year 12s.

Are you mentally tough?

This article appeared in The Age on 30/7/14.
How many of these 7 characteristics do you possess?

... in 2015 I will be doing ?

Do you know what your Uni preferences will be for 2015?  It is normal to be unsure.  Why not tap into the experience available to you.  Organise an interview with Ms Serpless and/or Ms Puszka to talk about this issue.  Email them for an appointment.  Do not wait until September! The Careers Room is around the corner from K202 (did you know that?).

Buying Formal Tickets!

This is huge ... and new ... so take your time ... breathe in ... and make it happen!

Ticketing for the Year 12 Formal is now open!

Assuming you are going to the Formal ...

Step 1.
Go to Compass, Events,  Year 12 Formal, and get your parents/guardian to consent online. No consent = no entry to the Formal.  PS:  no consent is required for your partner.

Step 2.
Tickets are $95 for you and, if you have a partner, an additional $95.  (That's $190 for two!)
How do you pay?

This is the new bit.

Details about how to pay are now displayed on the Formal Notice Board near the Year 12 Lockers (please do not remove).

This following link provides the same information.

https://drive.google.com/a/macrob.vic.edu.au/?tab=mo#folders/0B3lBZTLHkqJsN0pKcXBNU0dUUFE

Once you have paid online the office will generate a receipt or receipts which will be issued to you with your ticket or tickets by the Formal Committe.  This will take a few days ... be patient!  Your ticket will also come with a raffle ticket or tickets!

If you do not want to pay online, you can pay using credit card, cash or cheque (payable to The MacRobertson Girls' High School) at the General Office.

The office will generate a receipt and then allocate a ticket or tickets.  This will be distributed to you by the Formal Committee.  Be patient ... you will get your ticket or tickets!  Your ticket will also come with a raffle ticket or tickets!

Totally confused? See someone on the Formal Committee or your Coordinators.  Do not worry. It will happen.

Ling Wei and Sharon - Economics

Did you attend the Economics lecture in the Hall on Thursday 24th July?
This excellent session was organised by Ling Wei and Sharon who are the managers of BEAM, the Economics and Politics Club at MacRob.  The speaker was John Daley, CEO of the Grattan Institute.  John has a DPhil in Public Law from Oxford and degrees in Law and Science from Melbourne University.  The attendance was great!

Punctuality

With apologies to 99% of you, a small minority needs to reflect on this mysterious concept above and act on it.  If you are not punctual, it says something about your self-management and it is disrespectful to the person who is waiting for you!

High Tea anyone?

Our high tea committee has been on a few escapades around town, trying to feel the vibes and sample the food that regular high teas have, and Jess Tat in Yr 12 has written an article about it with photos.

High-Tea at the NGV

While this winter has been cold and the winds haven’t spared us the day, feeling excited about having our first high-tea together has made the cooler temperatures more tolerable! Having made plans for the whole high-tea committee (and our lovely French Exchange student) to visit the National Gallery of Victoria (one of Melbourne’s most beautiful buildings and art spaces), we figured it would be useful to have a trial high-tea together to help us plan for our very own high-tea event at school.

We walked through the front foyer, warmly greeted by one of the foyer men, up the escalator to the first floor and into a gorgeous and sumptuous tea room, overlooking the mesmerising Waterwall (which we had the personal pleasure of touching) or Federation court. Marvelling at the impeccable glass ware and white crockery, we seated ourselves comfortably and in high spirits for the food we had high hopes for.

It didn’t let us down. The presentation of the sweets plate was just perfect and visually-stunning. The entire plate was an artistic masterpiece, and we were hesitant to dig in. We spent more time being in awe and taking photographs of these sweet treats than consuming them. All of the sweets were fantastic and each one was incredibly crafted and constructed. Each little treat melted in your mouth and were either very subtle (the chocolate and raspberry mousse), or had very strong and colourful flavours (the limoncello meringue tart). While the sweets stole the show, it was hard not to ignore the savouries – the little sliced salmon with crème fraîche, and cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches.

Being a high-tea, the selection of teas was just amazing. The NGV had such a large variety of tea flavours that it was really difficult deciding which one we should have but we settled on Earl Grey, lemongrass and ginger, mint mix and another one whose name escapes me. They were all very rich and beautiful teas, a god-send because it was really cold outside.

The committee ordered the Italian Masterpieces High Tea set which consisted of:

· savouries including pizza, beef pie or vegetable pie, ciabatta with mozzarella and prosciutto
· scones with double cream and preserve
· a dessert dome including sweet tomatoes and mozzarella in a pot, sweet pasta dough, chocolate and raspberry mousse, nutella pizza with pistachio nut with the edible flower, limoncello meringue tart
· a choice of two teas or coffees

Or the Devonshire Tea set which consisted of the Chef’s selection of sweet treats with house blend tea or coffee.
Food that didn’t disappoint at all, and in fact, exceeded some expectations.

Not only did we have a lot of fun enjoying our high-tea treats at the NGV, it was really nice to just sit down with good company and good food in an incredible atmosphere. Our biggest appreciation to Jess and Shona for their organisation and planning of the event!

LEOS

Leos Club was set up at the start of the year to offer unique opportunities to girls in the Mac.Rob community, to help them gain new skills and also to be able to do the same for others. The aim of Leos Club this year was to establish the tutoring program for the girls to be part of the South Yarra Homework Club. On a weekly basis, our tutors have been working with disadvantaged kids living in, or near, the South Yarra commission flats to re-engage them and foster their love of learning.

Formal Committee Update

Less than 5 weeks to go to the Formal!

A casual glance around the committee's weekly meeting reveals Alinna in the corner chatting on the phone to Matt Preston discussing the difference between a macaroon and macaron, Vicky preparing her lecture to ANZ about money management and Elin researching the possibility of a NASA telescope quality lens for her camera. Fiona is drawing up an invitation that would make Picasso jealous (blindfolded), Amy is listening to today's Top 40 learning about 'mainstream' and Connie and Jasmine gaze into the distance like a scene from Bold and the Beautiful pondering the colour coordination of a sunset.
Viv and Tarli sit on the couch balancing pencils on their noses.

Since our visit to the lovely all inspiring Brighton International, the formal committee has been carefully plotting and planning, working with the theme of magic and winter to create what we hope to be the best, most memorable night of your entire lives.
Auditions for student performances have been running throughout this week so big thank you to all those girls that auditioned - the talent in our year level is absolutely phenomenal!!
Song suggestion sheets are up on the formal board near the year 12 locker bay awaiting fulfillment, if you have a favourite boyband or a rap song you have been secretly learning in your bedroom at night, let us know!
Ticket sales open 28th July . Details on how to organise tables will be sent to you in the nearby future however each table will hold 10 - 12 people.

In all seriousness with only four weeks left, the girls have been extremely hardworking and committed and we could not ask for a better team to work with.
Thank you also to Mr Page and Ms Ryan for all your help and support - you guys are the best!!!!!

Volunteering Expo

Did you check out the Volunteering Expo today in the Hall?  As these images show, most of the MacRob community participated.  This day will be long remembered and special congratulations go to Shiwa, Xinyi, Komal, Michelle Li, Alex and Evangeline for their organisational expertise in bringing this idea to fruition.  Optimism in action!
